Welcome

Welcome to
The Blue Project

What is the blue project?

I made this project because something in One Tree Hill hit me, remember when i told you that by watching what Haley went through it made me click with you a bit? Well if it helped me, I figured Haley might help you too.

But you can't just watch the 7 episodes to get it, so i thought if i could take the important bits out, the bits that I could pin point that sounded like stuff you have told me, or little quotes and carfully picked out music to that Mark has put in for those episodes I could show you that way. Even if knowing Haley's story doesn't help, some quotes and lyrics might.

I am also going to throw in part of Lucas' story u might already know it i know you watched when Keith died but there are some good quotes there

Haley's Story

It’s a rule in One Tree Hill that when a character says the line “Things are great right now” things will go drastically wrong for the person or family of the person who said it. This line was said by Haley and true to form 2 episodes later her whole world comes crashing down.

Her mum Lydia who you may, or may not remember from season 2 comes to Tree Hill with (for the viewer) 2 pieces of news, firstly husband Jimmy died several years ago (viewers never knew this, Haley did) and secondly Lydia was about to go too, she had pancreatic cancer and even with agressive treatment things were not going to get better.

In Haley's words as soon as she knew that her whole world chaged and she was mad that Lydia just spung that on her and just expected her to be strong for her 2 sisters Quinn and Taylor because they couldn't be, but Haley didn't want to be strong this time.

Taylor saw that by Lydia just accepting this was her fate now that she was giving up and she promtly left Haley and Quinn to deal with the news alone, which Lydia said was ok because everyone had to deal with it in their own way, but Tay was being selfish as always.

The the time came for Lydia to share her news with her grandson Jamie, that this christmas she would be with his grandfather, not with him. Jamie took it hard, what 7 year old boy wouldn't though, but then again for a 7 year old he had experienced so much death and trauma he understood what was going on, but still Haley wanted to be the one to break that news to her son but was gracious enough to understand why Lydia did it with him.

Haley told Jamie that it's ok for him to cry if he needed to and he said if he did want to, it wouldn't be for him, it would be for Haley because her mum is going to die and the one thing he never wants to lose is Haley or Nathan and she promised him they weren't going anywhere.

Haley wanted to give Lydias medical records to Nathan's team doctor, a one final shot that she hoped would save Lydia, but she knew it might come back with the same diagnosis and Lydia agreed to let Haley try, on the condition that when it did come back with  the same result she had to accept it, reluctantly Haley agreed because she was at least happy Lydia was doing this for her.

Unfortunately the result was the same so Haley was forced to accept it and put on a brave face for her son who had planned an early christmas so he could spend one final christmas with his grandma.

Then while making her special chicken dumpling soup with Haley (a 2 person recipe) Lydia shared some memories of all the times they had made it together while Haley was growing up and Haley for the 1000th time since she learned of Lydia's illness told her she loved her and Lydia joked that she wasn't about to keel over in the soup bowl.

Meanwhile Nathan was in the study and found Lydia's funeral arrangements and called Haley to tell her she had left them lying around, Haley went back to the kitchen to mention this to Lydia but she had collapsed and split the soup all over the floor.

In the hospital Lydia and the rest of the James-Scott family were told she doesn't have long left so the girls went in and Lydia asked if she had ruined the soup, that would depend on wether she felt Haley's floor was clean enough to eat it off joked Haley and the 2 sisters tried to be strong for Lydia and told her she would be around long enough to make lots of soup, but Lydia already knew that wasn't going to happen.

People came and went all day, Quinn tried to make Taylor see that if she wanted to say goodbye to Lydia she had to do it now, and besides Haley and Quinn needed their big sister right now, but she couldn't face any of it so Quinn left her with a picture of them all as children that showed how close they all were and the sister that Taylor used to be, she wished she would come back.

Haley realised she didn;t know much about Lydia or Jimmy and soon it would be too late to ask so she asked what she could and learnt some things like Lydia's and Jimmy's song and what her dad was like before he became a father. Then she realised she didnt have the reciepe of Lydia's special chicken dumpling soup so she wrote it down for her and shared with Haley the secrets of getting the soup just perfect using whole peppercorns not the table stuff.

Nathan breaks the news to Jamie that Lydia had collapsed while he was at his friends and he guesses that Lydia will die soon. Jamie shares with Nathan that he is greatful that Lydia helped him get his rabbit Chester but Nathan is confused because he and Hayley got Chester but Jamie says they didn't have a choice because Lydia taught him to wish on a star and he wished for Chester.

Haley is home trying to make the soup but Nathan tells her Jamie knows about Lydia and she says i thought we wasnt telling him but Nathan tells her he guessed and she gets in a mess when she realises that Jamie is so familar with death that it's easy for him to work out what is coming and cuts her finger with the knife while chopping carrots and getting hysterical and Nathan asked if it was bad, but Haley gave him the answer but different to what he was expecting "Yeah its bad, it's freaking bad, my mum's dying and i am making soup because that's all I can do because i can't stop this i don't know what the right questions are to ask it's all going just so freaking fast."

Haley took her attempt at the soup to Lydia, when she tried it she told her daughter it was just perfect the way she did it but Haley didn't think it was because it is a 2 person recipe.

Eventually Taylor turns up and says sorry for being such a dissapointment to Lydia but Lydia has news for her troublesome daughter, Taylor is the one out of all the kids that reminds Lydia most of herself but Taylor doesn't believe it, that is because Lydia says she only knows Lydia James the mother/wife, but back in the day there was a very Taylorish Lydia and she knows Taylor can get past that just the way she did.

Clay comes back to the hospital with Quinn with a computer in his hand and Lydia asks what is with all the hardware it seems him and Quinn have been working on something special for Lydia.

Jamie brings his special lamp that puts stars around the room to the hospital and tells Lydia to make a wish, then Taylor says sorry to Haley and Quinn for being a bad sister and wants to start again they all make up and Lydia turns to Jamie and says Thank you, that was clearly her dying wish.

Clay puts on the suprise he and Quinn made for Lydia its a slide show of all the pictures from Lydia's boxes of photos and when the slide show finishes she says she thinks she did ok and Haley says she did everything Lydia smiles and says hello handsome having clearly seen Jimmy and takes her final breath and the 3 sisters sit cuddled up to her crying.

Life is never the same again for Haley or her family.

Lydia dies

Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Took this love and I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
Till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
And can I sail through the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Oh oh I don't know, oh I don't know

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older I'm getting older too

I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I, I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older too oh yes
I'm getting older too

So, take this love, take it down
Oh if you climb a mountain and you turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring you down, down
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills

Well maybe the landslide will bring you down
Well well, the landslide will bring you down

I shall believe - Sheryl Crow
Come to me now
And lay your hands over me
Even if it's a lie
Say it will be alright
And I shall believe

I'm broken in two
And I know you're on to me
That I only come home
When I'm so all alone
But I do believe

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly you won't give up on me
And I shall believe
I shall believe

Open the door
And show me your face tonight
I know it's true
No one heals me like you
And you hold the key

Never again
would I turn away from you
I'm so heavy tonight
But your love is alright
And I do believe

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly
You won't give up on me
And I shall believe
I shall believe

Quinn's gallery opening

The next episode following Lydia's death sees Quinn open a photo gallery, something Lydia pushed her to do before her death by paying the first 6 months rent on a shop.

This episode Hayley is pretending to be ok to all her family and her friends and I think as viewer she  makes you believe she is ok too infact i think you question how she can be so ok this episode considering her mum just died but then you see Quinn is too so maybe it's something they have dealt with together.

Haley's cracks show

The episode following Quinn's gallery opening is when Haley starts to show that she is't as ok as she seemed before.

The following posts will show that.

Haley burns the piano

At then end of the episode Haley is sat at her piano and flicks a candle down on to the keys and it promptly starts to burn and she just sits there while it is burning.
Luckily Nathan finds her and gets her out but it breaks your heart because even as Nathan is pulling her away from the burning piano her eyes are glassed over and you know she isn't really in that room with him in her mind and has no real idea what she is doing.
Nathan asks her what happened and all she says is i need to go and call my mum.
As a viewer you know at this point that things are not good for her. This isn't the first time you see cracks in this episode but it is the first time you see just how low she is.

Jamie ruins the soup

You have to feel sorry for this kid, he just lost his grandma and he is slowly losing his mum too. He comes home and she is making the chicken dumpling soup again something which she is obviously obsessed with since she first finds out about Lydia.

Jamie gets excited and accidently spills stuff all over the floor and Haley goes into one, you have to feel sorry for her she is clearly slowly losing her cool with thie grief she is suffering and snapping at those closest to her and in the process pushing her family and friends further away but Jamie didn't mean to mess things up and is clearly very upset when she shouts and him and thinks it is his fault Haley is mad.

Nathan walks in just as Jamie is running out of the room upset and is visably worried about Haley and the way she is behaving. Just as she is clearing the mess up you can see tears in her eyes.

Haley writes

Haley writes a line in a note book that says "I remember when you left" then she looks at a photo of Lydia with her, Quinn and Taylor as kids and hugs close to her face her mum's scarf, the cracks are showing and they just get worse as the episode goes on.

Haley's Music Video Shoot

The episode opens with the news that Haley has her video shoot for her new single, Nathan says she was up early and asks if she is nervous she just shrugs.

The first time you see cracks in Haley's behaviour is when she gives Jamie left over cold chinese for breakfast.

Later that day she goes to Miranda (her record label manager) and just walks out of her office when Miranda is mid conversation (not that Haley was listening anyway) and at the shoot she just stands on the steps of her trailor then walks back to her car and drives off again.

Following the fire

The episode following the first is a bit of a mish mashed episode.

It starts with Haley standing by the pool looking into it and imagining jumping into it in her clothes then Jamie comes out and says "Mama i made my own breakfast and cleaned up" and she replies "What do you want a gold star?" he is clearly upset by her shut down, where is his mum wou used to be so proud of him when he did stuff?

Her next appareance is her sitting on the floor against her burnt piano on the phone and she says the following piece of dialogue...

It all just seems so fake. This idea that, good things happen to good people, and theres magic in the world, and the meek and righteous will inherit. There's too many good people that suffer for something like that to be true. There are too many prayers that get unanswered. Everyday we ignore how completely broken this world is. And we tell ourselves "it's all gonna be okay, you're gonna be okay," but it's not okay. And once you know that, there's no going back. There's no magic in the world. At least not today there isn't.

(That speech is something that really speaks volumes for me, i think what she says is true, there is no going back once you know that things are not going to be ok and I think that is part of why you are down sometimes)

Then it cuts to her back out by the pool looking down into the water while she is still going through that bit of dialogue then Nathan goes and sees her sitting in the middle of an empty field and walks over to join his broken wife and suggests they go out for a drive as Quinn is looking after Jamie for the day.

In the car Nathan tries to get Haley to speak to him about something she loves, or even something she hates (they are in a traffic jam) and she just shuts down and gets out the car saying i hate traffic, he gets out and says you know what your right it's a lovely day lets just walk.

Her next scene is her back on the phone again and she says the following bit of dialogue

I was thinking about the finality of it all – how somebody can leave your world in the blink of an eye and be gone forever. It’s too enormous to think about. It’s too hard. And then you’re just supposed to go on, right, like just deal with it, I mean really you’re only supposed to be sad for as long as the flowers last and then, oh, time to go back to telling jokes and reminiscing about the old days. I don’t have any jokes to tell.As a matter in fact I hope I never hear another joke as long as I live. And the old days are just that, they're old days, that are .. gone.

and then back to Nathan and Haley who have walked to where Haley first tutored him and he quotes Haley to her "You can just score your touchdowns Mr. Bigshot cause math don't care and neitherdo I" while he is holding a cracker jack (the same thing where he got her bracelet on their first tutor session but she shoots him down and says "It won't change anything, whatever prize you find in there won't fix me" to which he replies "Why not? It fixed me"

Again she is on the phone in the next scene she is in and she says this bit of dialogue

I hate to tell myself to just be happy. But I don’t feel happy. And when I try to change it, when I try to remember what being happy felt like, I can’t. I don’t feel joy. I don’t feel inspired. I feel numb.

Following that Brooke takes Haley to her clothes shop where her mother (Brooke's mum - clearly) is doing some work and she says hello to Haley who then snaps back "Last time i saw you, you was ruining my sister's gallery opening" (Victoria had been kissing Brooke's new designer Alexander behind the curtains at the gallery when the curtain fell down due to Skills hitting Mouth for sleeping with his gf and clearly the whole room saw their displays of affection for eachother - bearing in mind too that Alexander is about 20 something)

Victoria then replies and says the following piece of dialog (NOTE: This is something i think will help you if you change it to fit your situation)

This obviously touches a spot with Haley and i think this is where she wakes up a bit. Back home Nathan is going through some things and he comes accross a phone bill he looks through them with a concearned look on his face and he takes them straight to Quinn and asks where Lydia's phone is.

It is then clear that the phone calls Haley has been making through out the episode have been to Lydia, Haley and Quin play them back and we hear her admit to shouting at Jamie even though he never deserved it but she couldn't help shouting and both Nathan and Jamie deserve better than she is giving them right now (Jamie then leaves a special star on her bed with a drawing he did for her that reads "Your our treasure" (him and Quinn had been on a treasure hunt all day) the episode then ends with the quote again that things are not ok and once you know that there is no going back with Haley again by the pool this time at night looking into the water but this time she jumps in fully clothed while the quote is going round again.

In Haley's final phone call she says this

Mom, it’s me. I know you’re gone. And you’re not coming back, but I was just thinking maybe somehow I could see you again or be able to talk to you or hear your voice. I snapped at Jamie today again, and he didn’t deserve it, and I don’t know why I did it, I just did. He deserves better than who I am right now and so does Nathan. Every day we ignore how truly broken this world truly is and we tell ourselves it’s all going to be okay."You're gonna be okay."But it’s not okay.I know that now.

Light outside - Wakey!Wakey!

I know you wanna stay in bed
But it's light outside
It's light outside
So you know, I'm gonna stay right here
You saved my life once
You saved my life

And I
Will try
To get you up
Cause it's beautiful outside
And we'll fall
But we'll try
We'll do our best
And I'll love you all the while
Because you saved my life once...

I know you wanna rest your head
And just forget the night
Forget the night
You know I'm gonna stay right here
I'll sit by your side
Sit by your side

And I
I'll try
To get you up
It's beautiful outside
We'll fall
But we'll try
We'll do our best
And I'll love you all the while
You saved my life once...

I think I always knew you would be the greatest

Carry you home - Nashville Skyline

Mark Schwhan didn't have a tune for the season finale CODA (ending monatge of scenes) because 1) the coda for the episode lasted 7 mins so he needed a song to last the same length and that was a rare find at the time 2) any he did find at 7 mins didn't fit right with the way he wanted the coda played out.....so he got Michael Grubbs and some other singers and instrument players (that i have never heard of) together and said lets record something and this is what they came up with (Mark features on the vocals but only backing vocals, Michael Grubbs was ill so couldn't do the backing vocals from what i can work out he just plays the piano but still it is a good tune none the less)

Come closer, we're alone
And it chills me to the bone
I wish that I'd been mad
To care, and carry you, carry you home

You're not the only one

Isolated and undone
So many miles to go,
Well I know, I know

I know you think that you've been down,

You never know when things will turn around, turn around
I know you think that you've been down,
You never know when things will turn around, turn around

Come closer, we're alone

And I know
You feel so helpless
I know, I know

I know you think that you've been down,

You never know when things will turn around, turn around
I know you think that you've been down,
You never know when things will turn around, turn around
I know you think that you've been down,
You never know when things will turn around, turn around

December,

I remember,
We smiled for awhile.

In December,

Together we'll climb
And I'll carry you home.

"Live Long, Be Strong Rock On!"

November - Gemma Hayes

November
Has taken its toll
And if I know better
There's more to come

And the ocean is waitin' at our backdoor

You know we could leave
But we know in our hearts
There's so much more

We will find a way

To make it through these days
And we will find a way
To make it through these days

And I've fallen face down in the sun

Yeah, I take my chance playin'
Life's little dance and I still don't understand

And people are talkin' at me

Yeah, they make no sense
Wish I could pay my expenses
And get on the next train outta here

We will find a way

To make it through these days
We will find a way
To make it through
With sweet love and prayer

And who's the fairest of us all

And who will fight for you and I
Who's the bravest of us all
And who will hold us when we cry
When we cry

And we will find a way

To make it through these days
We will find a way
To make it through
To make it through
To make it through
To make it through
To make it through

So what next for Haley

The following episode Jamie is wanting to go to Utah with the rest of the gang for Julian's film premier she says yes and he runs off to tell Nathan but she calls him back and holds up the star he left for her and says she loves him

The gang all go to Utah and spending time away from TH and time with her friends and family in the snow seems to really help her heal.

The boys build Jamie a snow fort and he takes Haley to it and she says she likes the calmness and peace of it.

Haley takes Jamie out to buy a new outfit for the premier and spending that time with Jamie alone seems to help her alot too.

At the end they all go sleding down the hill together to the song i said that Mark recorded espeically for that coda of the season finale, i think the song is fitting to Haley's story and to you too.

I haven't seen what happens next yet season 8 doesn't start till 20th june but if this needs editing and more added i will be sure to add to it :)

Depression Quotes from OTH

"Someone once said that death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live"

"I just tell myself to be happy. But i don't feel happy. And when i try to change it, when I try to remember what being happy felt like, I can't. I don't feel joy. I don't feel inspired. I just feel numb."

"I wish I could tell you there was a magic cure, Haley. But depression is a singular struggle. Some people just wake up one day and feel a little better than the day before."

"Stepping up. It's a simple concept. It basically means to rise above yourself; to do a little more, to show you're something special. Life's funny sometimes; can push pretty hard like when you fall in love with someone but they forget to love you back like when your best friend and your boyfriend leave you alone like when you pull the trigger or light the flame and you can't take it back. Like I said, in sports they call this 'stepping up'. In life, I call it pushing back. Every once in a while people step up, they rise above themselves. Sometimes they surprise you, and sometimes they fall short. Life is funny sometimes, it can push pretty hard, but if you look close enough you find hope in the words of children, in the bars of a song and in the eyes of someone you love. And if you're lucky, and if you're the luckiest person on this entire planet, the person you love decides to love you back."

"There is no despair so absolute as that which comes with the first moments of our first great sorrow. When we have not yet known what it is to have suffered and healed, to have despaired and recovered hope"

"You know it's been said that we just don't recognize the significant moments of our lives while they are happening. We grow complacent with ideas, or things or people and we take them for granted and it's usually not until that thing is about to be taken away from you that you've realized how wrong you've been that you realized how much you need it, how much you love it"

Lucas's Story

To keep a long story kinda short
Dan killed Keith (Lucas' uncle) Lucas and Karen were both destroyed over it and while it was not as heartbreaking as Haley it did have some outstanding moments in it.

Stages of Greif

The episode following Keith's murder suggests there are stages to grief so I will outline them here. This is a good episode because it covers each stage following Lucas and Karen through that journey.

Stage 1

DENIAL

Stage 2

ANGER

Stage 3

FEAR

Stage 4

GUILT

Stage 5

DEPRESSION

Stage 6

ACCEPTANCE
